Applied research refers to the scientific studies that seek to solve debilitating and life-threatening problems one deals with everyday and that have major impacts on work, relationships, health, and overall-wellbeing.

Medical research is funded by a variety of entities, including the federal government, patients, private funders, disease groups, as well as the Veterans Administration.
A primary source of federal funding for tomorrow’s cures comes from the National Institute of Health (NIH).
